The Power of your Thoughts;

Your thoughts are so powerful, you literally create what you are thinking. In other words, your dominant thoughts have the ability to create your reality.

Often we think thoughts are just some transient things that sweep through our mind, and mean nothing until physical action is taken. This is far from the truth. The truth is, action begins from the thoughts. Your thoughts create your imaginations and your imaginations create your life outcome.

‘As a man thinks in his heart, so is he’ Proverbs’ 28:7

As illustrated above, your desires or expectations first reflect in your thoughts and then create corresponding images. Once an image is formed and projected in your mind long enough, its planted in your heart and begins to grow. Then, sub-consciously and consciously you start to gravitate towards the physical equivalent of this image. This happens whether it is a positive image; i.e thinking intently of a nice vacation will get you preparing for one. Or you can plant and gravitate towards a negative thought, such as; criminal or perverse behaviour. Your thoughts are that powerful;

‘Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it flow the springs of your life’ Proverbs 4:23.

As the pictures portray, our emotions are first stirred up in our minds; love, hate, stress, anger etc. Also brilliant ideas are first formed in our minds before they become a reality – The greatest inventions and most innovative creations started as someone’s bright idea which became a reality as they took action towards their thoughts. Works the same with every thought pattern.

When you understand the power of your thoughts and how your dominant thoughts and subsequent action reflect your life outcomes, you will be intentional with your thoughts and take control of what you allow in. As the following quote states;

‘As in water face reflects face, so a mans heart reflects the man’. Proverbs 27:19

How to take control of your thoughts;

  • What you watch or read: Be deliberate about what you read or lend you ears to ( media content, news etc). The word and images get planted in your heart and will affect your thoughts and decisions. Consciously choose something that will have a more positive effect in your mind and your actions.
  • Who you are spending time with: There is a popular saying  ‘show me your friends and I will tell you who you are’. This statement is true to the capacity that the people you spend time with are likely to affect your behaviour and the decisions you make. This is true for both physical and virtual contacts i.e online groups or associations you interact with. Most people will mirror the behaviour of the people they spend time with or idolize, even when these people are behaving badly. ‘Be not deceived; evil communication corrupts good manners’ 1 Corinthians 15:3
  • Resist dwelling on negative thoughts that lead to negative outcomes: Deliberately practice resisting toxic thoughts by focusing on positive healthy thoughts or activities that yield positive results. Toxic thoughts also affect your health – Joyce Meyer in her book referred to a study which stated that 87% of sickness is connected to wrong thinking. Quickly replace negative and toxic thoughts with more wholesome thoughts for positive outcomes.

‘Whatever is noble, whatever is right – If anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things’ Philippians 4:8

  • Be strategic about your thoughts: If you understand what you want in life, you can strategically guide your thought patterns to create the right images in you mind, which results in positive action. Ironically, your mind will gravitate towards wrong thoughts by default if you are not intentional in controlling what you allow into your mind.

Good Luck x
