Fear vs Faith;

 Imagine FEAR as a ‘strong man’ whose aim is to stop you from moving forward, or achieving your goals. Whereas FAITH does exactly the opposite; You need faith (or courage) to overcome your fears and achieve success in your endeavours.

“The best things in life are always on the other side of your fear” Steve Harvey.

Fear is a negative emotion or thought which has the ability to paralyse you completely from taking action forward – It is usually based on an emotional  perception that something may go wrong. Hence the acronym for fear defined as; F – false, E – Evidence, A – Appearing, R – Real. A good example is the sort of fear you feel when you want to do something outside your comfort zone, such as public speaking.

Fear paralyses:(

Fear is conceived in your mind based on your perceived inabilities. This perception automatically triggers off the emotions of fear which could paralyse you from fulfilling your goal. Fear is the umbilical cord that connects its victim with negative emotions (i.e worry, anxiety or panic), this is the conduit that births the situation you have so fearfully perceived.

Faith, on the other hand, is a phenomenal concept. It is the opposite of fear, the only effective antidote to fear, and its the umbilical cord (or conduit) that connects you to hope, courage and victory. Fear and faith cannot dwell together as one will always give way to the other. However, the great news is that you have the ability within you to resist your fears and choose faith. FEAR connects you to a death cycle while FAITH connects you to hope and life which brings health, sound mind and ultimately success. Which will you rather choose? The scripture admonishes;

 ‘I set before you life and death… Therefore choose life’ Deuteronomy 30:19

Faith – A helping hand of hope:)

How to choose Faith over Fear;

Faith verses fear is like the proverbial good overcoming evil – Faith is your positive emotions that when activated or triggered can combat your Fears, which is a negative emotion; Fear is something we all experience sometimes because it is a natural concept of life. Most things happening in our world today point us towards fear; Oppression, terror, wars, crime, debt, abuse etc. It becomes apparent that one cannot get away completely from the emotions of fear. However, although choosing faith maybe a challenging prospect, this will guarantee your victory over fear. The following are three key ways to choose faith over fear.

  • Prayer; Prayer is an act of humility which involves you committing your fears to the creator who made all things and is greater than all of our fears – It is you simply acknowledging you need the help of one greater than you. ‘I sought God, and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears’ (Psalm 23:45). Emotions of fear can be so overwhelming sometimes, making you feel completely helpless. This is a good time to pray – Prayer will immediately energise your faith. Once you transit from fear to faith, your peace is restored and your mind is open to options which you cannot conceive when you are fearful. This empowers you towards taking positively inspired actions that often generate positive outcomes.
  • Actions; Next action is to strive to keep a positive mind-set and attitude by believing that things will work out well no matter how challenging it appears.  Better still, begin to act (and believe) like things are already working out. Your subconscious mind will trigger a positive state of mind that energises you by transmitting positive messages to your body that actually begin to make things better physically.
  • Words; Speak positive words of faith over the situation and do not dwell on the negative emotions of fear and its counterparts such as, anxiety, worry, doubt, anger etc. By doing this you are rising above your fears and choosing a higher level – faith. For instance when you feel anxious about a situation you may start saying ‘everything will be fine’ instead of complaining and allowing doubt in. choose to speak positive words of faith as if things are alright, because positive words will not only make you feel better, things turn out better if you dare to believe – Faith is believing even without seeing.

‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen’ Hebrews 11:1
